Petrol prices continued at 3-month low, diesel rates become cheaper today

Diesel prices were slashed by 7-8 paise while petrol prices remained unchanged today across all the major cities in the country.

In Delhi, a litre of petrol is retailed at 71.94. Petrol is available at 77.6 a litre in Mumbai. Those who are in Kolkata have to pay 74.58 for a litre of petrol. A litre of petrol costs 74.73 in Chennai.

Petrol and diesel rates in India are reviewed on a daily basis. Oil marketing companies revise the fuel prices every day at 6 am. Various factors like international crude oil prices, rupee-US dollar exchange impact the petrol and diesel prices in the country.

Oil prices edged today as China’s coronavirus epidemic had affected oil demand. Brent crude was at $56.99 a barrel, down 33 cents by 0121 GMT after rising 5.2% last week. The rupee declined by 10 paise to 71.47 against the US dollar in opening trade today.

Last week, oil companies sharply hiked the price of non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. A non-subsidised 14.2 kg cylinder will now cost 858.50 in New Delhi, 896 in Kolkata, 829.50 in Mumbai and 881 in Chennai.
