The luxury cruise ship Diamond Princess has been quarantined in Japan since February 4 due to coronavirus outbreak.

So far, over 218 people including two Indian crew members have been tested positive on the cruise ship.

The crew and the passengers, who have been quarantined in the ship, are living in fear and have been making multiple requests to the Indian government to help them return home.

Anbalagan, a chef in the ship, speaking to Indian Today said that he is fine now and is hoping to return home on February 19 as promised by the management of the cruise.

“All of us have been provided with thermometer, water, sanitising napkin and have been asked to sit six feet away from one another during our meal time. All of us are eager to go home,” Anbalagan said.

Anbalagan’s family and friends have been in constant touch with him. His wife Maliga along with MLA Sarvanan, who represents the constituency that Anbalagan belongs to, went and presented a letter to the Madurai district collector and sough government’s intervention to bring Anbalagan back home.

“I am really afraid about the condition my husband is in. Day-by-day the number of infected people is increasing. Please bring my husband home soon,” Maliga, talking to media in Madurai, said.

Meanwhile, Anbalagan inside the ship is now worried after a friend had communicated a message that there might be a further delay in the return of the crew to their homes.

“There are messages from friends that there might be a delay as told by some central government minister and that is causing some worry. I am not scared. I am Tamil from Madurai and I am strong. I know I will return safe. My family though is afraid and they are worried,” Anbalagan said.

The crew members have been raising concern about the condition they are working in.

The people on the ship work in close quarters and this may make people contract the coronavirus.

Though passengers have been asked to remain in their cabins the crew members on a daily basis interact with fellow crew members and the passengers.

Sonali Thakkar, a crew member in the ship too had raised concern about the safety of healthy passengers and crew members as the number of people getting infected has been increasing every day.
