KOCHI: Two waterfront highrise apartment complexes in Maradu were demolished on Saturday morning for violation of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) norms after a Supreme Court ruling. The first building–Holy Faith H2O – was demolished by implosion at 11.18 am amidst huge security. The implosion was delayed by 18 minutes. It was earlier planned at 11 am but the delay was because aerial surveillance had to be completed to see preparedness. The second building – Alfa Serene — was demolished by implosion at 11.43 am. Alfa Serene was surrounded by 36 houses. The rest two buildings will be razed on Sunday. Traffic has been halted on land, water and air in the evacuation zone during this time. The other two buildings – Golden Kayaloram and Jain Coral – will be demolished on Sunday.
