Cricketer bribery case: Clean up by May 31 or else… Bhagwant Mann gives ultimatum to Charanjit Singh Channi in IPL cricketer bribe case

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann gave an ultimatum till May 31 to former CM Charanjit Singh Channi in an alleged bribery case. Mann had accused Channi’s nephew of demanding Rs 2 crore in lieu of getting the cricketer a government job. Bhagwant Mann tweeted that he would “make public” the figures and names in support of his allegations if Channi failed to reveal “all the details”. He tweeted this in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann had on Monday alleged that Channi’s nephew had demanded money from a cricketer in the name of getting him a government job in the ‘sports’ category. Channi had denied the allegation and accused the chief minister of spreading lies against him.

Mann wrote on Twitter, ‘I am giving you time till May 31 at 2 pm to make public all the information about your nephew demanding bribe from a cricketer in exchange for a job, otherwise I will show the figures in front of Punjabis. Bribe amount) and the name and where the meeting of the concerned people took place, I will make all the things public.

Mann told a gathering in Sangrur that last week when he was in Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh to watch an Indian Premier League match, he met a cricketer from Punjab who told him that he had applied for a government job in the sports category . Mann told that Amarinder Singh was the chief minister then and the cricketer was told that he would get a job.

Mann claimed that the cricketer and his father met Channi (who later became chief minister in place of Amarinder Singh) and Channi asked them both to meet his nephew. The chief minister claimed that the cricketer told him that he met Channi’s nephew who assured him that he would get a job and asked him to arrange for ‘two’.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Mann said, “The player took Rs 2 lakh and met Channi’s nephew who abused him and said ‘do’ does not mean Rs 2 lakh but Rs 2 crore.” Channi is also facing Vigilance Bureau probe. Last month, he had alleged that Mann Sarakar was indulging in “vendetta politics”.
