The Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a person from Gujarat for posing as an additional director in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The arrested person has been identified as Kiran Bhai Patel. He is a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The police said that they were informed by the Criminal Investigative Department on March 2 that a person claiming to be an additional director in the PMO office was coming to Kashmir.
As soon as this information was received, the Srinagar Police formed a team and reached the Five Star Hotel Lalit located in Srinagar where Kiran Bhai Patel was staying.
The police asked some questions to Patel but the police doubted his answer. The police brought Patel to the Nishat police station, where Patel confessed his crime in front of the police.
Patel was arrested by the police on 3 March 2023.
Police has issued a statement on Friday saying that Patel has been presenting himself as Additional Director in PMO New Delhi. But he is not on any position there.
The police have told that ten fake visiting cards and two more mobile phones have been seized from Patel.
According to the police, Patel is on police remand till March 17. The police have registered a case under sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC against Patel at Nishat police station.
The police has also told that it has inquired about this from many concerned people. The police have also told in the statement that the investigation of the case is still in the initial stage. Any further information will be shared only after complete investigation.
There are three more cases registered against Patel in Gujarat.
Patel went on picnics to several health resorts in Kashmir under the supervision of CRPF and J&K Police where he made several videos and shared them on his Twitter handle.
During this, Patel was also given security and bulletproof vehicle.
A senior Intelligence Department official told the PRESS24 NEWS that Patel himself had visited Kashmir twice as Additional Director in the PMO before his arrest.
He also said that when Patel came to Kashmir for the second time, he was put on surveillance. He also had to say that his family was also with him on the second trip.
Police sources told that Patel used to come to Kashmir on every trip and take facilities on different pretexts and used to go for sightseeing.
In the police complaint filed against Patel, it has been told that this person wanted to extort money and facilities.
The news of Patel’s arrest came to light on Thursday when he was presented in a Srinagar court.
The same senior intelligence officer told that this is a big mistake in the context of security in a place like Kashmir.
Many questions are being raised on social media about giving security to Kiran Patel and misleading the government.
A police officer told that about 11 years ago a person named Javid Khan was also arrested on the charges of misleading.
