Bombay High Court Quashes Cm Shinde’s Decision Over Recruitment In Co-operative Bank

The Shinde government has been severely reprimanded for recruitment in cooperative banks. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has set aside Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s decision to stay the recruitment process of a cooperative bank. The Court held that the Chief Minister has no power to review or amend the decisions made by the Minister concerned.

A division bench of Justices Vinay Joshi and Valmiki SA Menezes, in its order dated March 3, termed Shinde’s decision as totally unwarranted and without authority of law. The order was passed on a petition filed by Chandrapur District Central Co-operative Bank Ltd and a businessman named Santosh Singh Rawat. Let us tell you, Rawat was elected as the chairman of the bank opposing Shinde’s decision.

According to the petition, the CM’s order was passed at the behest of local leaders and did not take into account the fact that the bank was facing acute shortage of staff, making it impossible to run 93 branches. CM had banned the recruitment process in November 2022.
