Police has issued red alert in Punjab on Republic Day. The police have sealed all the borders of the state. DGP Gaurav Yadav reviewed the security arrangements with all the CP/SSPs of the state and asked the District Deputy Commissioners to ensure foolproof security arrangements in their respective jurisdictions. He has directed all station house officers and gazetted officers to remain in the field till the end of the Republic Day celebrations.
The DGP informed that senior officers of Chandigarh have also been deputed to review the security arrangements in important districts of the state and additional police force has been deployed in sensitive areas. At the same time, ADGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla has camped in Jalandhar to ensure proper security arrangements for the state-level Republic Day celebrations. Shukla informed that a thorough checking of vehicles and suspicious persons has been ordered.
At the same time, the DGP said that all the inter-state and inter-district borders in the state have been sealed. He has urged the people of Punjab to be alert at all times and immediately inform the police if they find anything suspicious. The DGP said that in case of any emergency people can inform the police on helpline numbers 112 or 181. Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit will unfurl the national flag and take the salute during the state-level Republic Day celebrations to be held in Jalandhar on Thursday.
