On 18 September 2016, terrorists from Pakistan attacked an Indian Army camp in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. 18 soldiers were martyred in this deadly attack. There was outrage across the country. Then PM Modi had said that the attackers will not go fearlessly and will not be forgiven. 18 The sacrifice of the soldiers will not go in vain. In response to the attack, counter-attacks were launched on the night of 28–29 September against terrorist groups.
45 terrorists were killed
Pakistan was not accepting the existence of terrorist camps. Taking a tough stand, India took such a step that not only Pakistan but also showed the whole world that India can eliminate terrorist camps. On the intervening night of 28-29 September, special forces of the Indian Army crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and carried out surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and destroyed them. In this attack, the Indian Army destroyed six launchpads of Pakistani terrorists and about 45 terrorists were killed in this action.
Two years after this attack, in 2018, the Government of India started celebrating Surgical Strike Day. This surgical strike is also remembered as the best military operation because no Indian Army jawan suffered even minor scratches while destroying enemy positions.
Uri’s Revenge
India planned to teach a lesson to Pakistan. For the first time, action against terrorists was carried out across the Line of Control (LoC). The surgical strike operation was carried out on the night of 28-29 September with the help of 150 commandos of Indian Army Special Forces. The Indian Army entered 3 kilometers in PoK at midnight and destroyed the hideouts of the terrorists.

At 12 midnight on 28 September, 150 commandos were landed near the LoC through MI 17 helicopters. From here, 25 commandos of 4 and 9 Para crossed the LoC and carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
The army had started its preparations for this strike from 24 September. The Special Commandos were equipped with night-vision devices, Tavor 21 and AK-47 assault rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, shoulder-fiable missiles, Heckler and Koch pistols, high-explosive grenades and plastic explosives. The team consisted of 30 Indian soldiers.
The commandos threw grenades at the terrorists without losing any chance. As the chaos spread, he opened fire with smoke grenades. Along with the terrorists, some Pakistani army personnel were also killed in the attack. This operation started at 12.30 pm and went on till 4.30 am. The entire operation was monitored overnight from the Army Headquarters in Delhi.
These terror camps were used as launchpads to send terrorists to India. The guards stationed at these launchpads were gunned down by the snipers before the troops could enter and complete the nearly five-hour operation. In this attack, the hideouts of the terrorists in PoK situation were badly destroyed and the back of the terrorists was broken.
