The dark clouds that have covered the sky are expected to move towards the sea in 1-1.5 hours. During this, light to moderate rain may occur in Odisha.

PK Jena further said that ‘Meteorological Department’s report indicates that the rains are likely to increase as the night progresses. The district administration has asked to be vigilant. No major landslides have happened so far. Till 9 pm, around 39,000 people have been evacuated in six districts.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department had said that the storm would hit between Gopalpur in Odisha and Visakhapatnam coasts of Andhra Pradesh by late night. Five out of six fishermen in a boat jumped into the sea due to strong waves in Andhra’s Srikakulam. Three of them swam to the shore, but they say two others died. Another fisherman who was in the boat is said to be missing. 1100 people have been accommodated in 61 relief camps in the city. Joint Collector Sumit Kumar said that the next two hours are important. During this time the wind can blow at a speed of 90 to 100 kmph. Two teams of NDRF and four teams of SDRF have reached the area.

Naveen Patnaik set a target of zero loss

In view of the threat of Cyclone ‘Gulaab’, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held a meeting at Odisha Bhawan in Delhi today and discussed the necessary precautions. He said that the impact of this storm is likely to be maximum in 10 districts. Patnaik held a virtual meeting with the Chief Secretary and District Collectors of the state. Five thousand people evacuated
