Professor Bhaskaran Raman, working in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay, has written an open letter to the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Delhi and Karnataka. This letter has not only been issued by Bhaskaran Raman but also includes IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, various doctors, professionals and concerned parents from the states of Maharashtra, Delhi and Karnataka.
It is written in the letter that schools have been largely closed in the country for the last 16 months. Also the cost of school closures is rising in terms of learning and development losses, while scientific evidence shows that reopening is possible with safeguards in place.
It is further written that schools are partially or fully open in about 170 countries around the world. Some countries, such as France and Sweden, did not close schools during the pandemic. At the same time, there is also evidence that schools are at low risk of corona.
Efforts should be made to remove the risks along with the measures to protect against corona as stated in the letter by these people. Also said that schools cannot be opened overnight. This will require careful planning at all levels, especially with regard to local conditions.
However, some states have given permission to open schools under the Corona protocol. But some states are not in favor of opening schools. They believe that children cannot be put at risk of corono. At the same time, it has to be seen that what is the effect of this letter on the governments.
