- In 2020, the pollution in the capital was in severe or very poor condition for 92 days.
Preparations have started to deal with the pollution that has become a problem of every year in winter. This year work has started on a new system in the fight against pollution. With this, the real-time status of pollution will be known and accordingly work can be done on the source of pollution. The Indian Institute of Tropical Metrology (IITM), Pune, under the supervision of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), has started a trial on this.
According to officials, the decision support system is based on the pollution tracking model. Its purpose is to find out the factors of pollution. These factors include smoke from vehicles, road dust, stubble etc. All this will happen on real time basis. With this system, the source of pollution will be known as well as information will also be available from where this pollution is coming. This system will identify the source of pollution in about 19 districts of Delhi-NCR. Common people will also be able to see real time data.
According to officials, this is the first monitoring system in the capital which will track the pollution source in real time. Currently, the trial of this monitoring model is going on, so that its accuracy can be increased. Every effort is made that by October this year, this system should start giving real time data. Stubble pollution in October and November adds to the problem of the capital. This system will give complete details of each source of pollution and will tell which source is polluting the capital. For this, all sources of pollution have been put in this system. This will help to know which type of pollution is affecting the capital more rapidly at which time. Along with this, where is the source of pollution will also be known.
In the last several years, many steps have been taken to reduce pollution. Talking about the annual level, there has been an average reduction in the level of pollution in the capital, but the winter pollution has not been able to get rid of it. In 2020, the pollution in the capital was in severe or very poor condition for 92 days. The number of such days in 2019 was 80.
