Militants barged into the house of police personnel Sajjad Ahmed and shot dead his wife and daughter on Tuesday night, a day before Eid-ul-Azha, in Kokagund Verinag area, about 40 km from Anantnag district headquarters in south Kashmir.
The injured have been admitted to Anantnag District Hospital where their condition is stable. His life was saved due to non-availability of the police personnel who came home on Eid holiday. Police personnel Sajjad is said to be posted at Gandhinagar police station in Jammu.
After the incident, the police have cordoned off the entire area in search of the attackers. The police have told the terrorist organization Jaish hand behind the incident. One of the attackers has been identified as Mufti Altaf of Natipora area.
It is said that Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police jawan Sajjad Ahmed Malik had come home on Eid-ul-Azha holiday. Late Tuesday at around 9.30 pm some terrorists entered his house and started firing.
Anticipating something untoward, he fled from the spot but his wife Nahida (38) and daughter Madhiya (16) were injured. Both have been admitted to GMC Anantnag.
