- ‘Captain’s status is like Parkash Singh Badal in Punjab’
- There is no question on the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh: Manish Tewari
- Sidhu met MLAs amid tussle
The central leadership of the Congress is making every effort to reduce the tussle between Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Congress leaders from Delhi to Chandigarh are busy to settle this matter. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Manish Tiwari has sided with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Tiwari says that those who are denying the captain’s contribution are making a big mistake. He also spoke about the farmers’ movement and the turmoil in the Punjab Congress.
Manish Tewari was present in a program of Hindi news channel ‘Aaj Tak’ on Saturday. Tiwari was asked under whose leadership Amarinder Singh or Navjot Singh Sidhu would contest the assembly elections in Punjab next year. On this, he said that no one can make the mistake of denying the contribution made by Captain Amarinder for the last 50 years. If someone tries to deny him, then according to me it is not right and he is making a big mistake.
‘No question on Captain’s leadership’
Regarding the elections to be held next year, Manish Tewari made it clear that no other party in Punjab had ever got the number of seats Congress got in 2017 elections. In such a situation, there is no point in questioning the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh. It was under his able leadership that the Congress got a big victory.
‘Captain’s status like Parkash Singh Badal in Punjab’
On the ongoing internal fight in the party, Manish said that Captain Amarinder has given a smooth government to Punjab in the last four and a half years. The 2022 election will be fought on the basis of the past performance of the Punjab government. The status of Captain in the state today is like that of Parkash Singh Badal.
‘Agriculture laws are so good, so why are farmers still on the road?’
Regarding agricultural laws, Congress leader Manish Tewari said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was the first to raise his voice against agricultural laws in Punjab. The Punjab government has not encouraged the farmers’ movement. The Punjab government is with the demands of the farmers. He said that if the laws are so good then why are the farmers still on the road. Why don’t BJP leaders talk to farmers, he said.
What did Captain Amarinder Singh say to Harish Rawat?
Sources told PTI that Amarinder Singh had told Rawat that he would not meet Sidhu until he publicly expressed regret or apologized for the tweets against him. According to sources, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had told Rawat that the manner in which the issue was handled is not acceptable at all. He still has objections to Sidhu’s presidency, but will accept whatever decision the leadership takes.
Sidhu met MLAs amid tussle
Meanwhile, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday met Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar and several MLAs. After meeting Jakhar, Sidhu met other party leaders including some ministers in Chandigarh.
Both Sidhu and Amarinder have already attended 10 Janpath
Before the elections in Punjab next year, both the leaders have been presented in the Delhi Durbar. Recently, Amarinder Singh met Congress President Sonia Gandhi. On the other hand, Sidhu met Sonia Gandhi a day earlier. Sidhu has also met former party president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
