The party’s top leadership looks helpless due to the ongoing Congress infighting in Punjab. Meanwhile, former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu met party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Friday.

Rahul Gandhi and Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat were also present in this meeting. After the meeting, Rawat said, Sonia Gandhi is yet to take a final call on the party’s issue in Punjab. After the meeting, Sidhu quietly left 10 Janpath without talking to the media.

Earlier on Thursday, it seemed from Rawat’s words that Sidhu might get the command of the state president. After that the show of power started in Punjab.

According to sources, the Captain himself expressed his displeasure by talking to Sonia Gandhi. He even asked the Congress President to break the party and said that he cannot work under Sidhu’s chairmanship.

Earlier, the Congress leadership swung into action as soon as the news of factionalism in Punjab came and on Thursday night, Sidhu was summoned to Delhi in the morning.

When reporters asked Rawat after the meeting on Friday the question of Sidhu being made the Punjab Congress president, he said, “Who told you. I have come here to give my report. You will be informed as soon as Sonia takes a decision.

Congress will fight elections on the face of Captain: Rawat
Amidst infighting in the party, Harish Rawat said that in Punjab, the party will fight elections on the face of Amarinder Singh. “Punjabis don’t want to experiment with their leadership. Rawat said that only Congress under the leadership of Captain can give security to the people of Punjab.
