All is not well under the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. Nana Patole, president of Maharashtra Congress, an ally in the government, has attacked the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Nana Patole on Wednesday termed NCP chief Sharad Pawar as “remote control” of the Shiv Sena-led MVA government in the state. Patole made this comment while talking to a regional news channel.
In fact, NCP is the second largest constituent of MVA after Shiv Sena. Congress is the third participant in the MVA. Asked why he (Nana Patole) was not invited to Pawar’s house on Tuesday when a group of state Congress leaders met the NCP chief. To this, Patole said that this meeting was for the state government and its coordination. It was not a party level meeting. He (Pawar) is actually the ‘remote control’ of this MVA government.
Mention of deception of NCP
Earlier in the day, Patole had also attacked the NCP over the 2014 assembly elections. Patole said his party was “betrayed” seven years ago and now it is preparing for the 2024 general elections keeping this in mind. Patole was apparently referring to the NCP’s move to contest the 2014 assembly elections in Maharashtra by splitting from the Congress.

NCP had given support to the BJP government
A section of Congress believes that the NCP’s decision benefited the BJP, which had won 122 seats and staked claim to form the government. In fact, the NCP had then given outside support to the BJP to form the government and said that it was doing so in the interest of Maharashtra and for the development of the state. However, then BJP formed the government with the support of Shiv Sena.
2014 election mentioned
The alliance of BJP and Shiv Sena broke after the 2019 assembly elections as the Uddhav Thackeray-led party was adamant on being given the chief minister’s post. Before the 2014 assembly elections, the Congress was the largest party in Maharashtra, but gradually it slipped to the fourth position in terms of the number of MLAs. Patole said that the Congress government (at the center) will come under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in 2024. BJP has put the entire nation on sale. People are suffering from epidemics. Their condition is getting worse due to the rise in inflation. He said that only Congress can replace BJP at the national level.

MVA government accused of espionage
Patole had recently courted controversy by saying that the MVA government was spying on him. He had said that due to the growing influence of his party, the ground under the feet of Shiv Sena and NCP is slipping. Patole had on Monday said that misinformation was being spread through the media and there was no dispute between the constituents of the MVA and the Congress was being deliberately targeted.
