On an average, every sample is getting infected during genome sequencing. Citing the GISID, the government is giving information about different variants of corona virus. According to the same GISID, India is the second country in the world where the cases of delta variant are highest. So far, its presence has been recorded in the sequencing of 54 samples in the last four weeks. So far, delta has been found in 6,656 samples in India.
Experts say that in view of the second wave, the infection may have come under control to a large extent, but it is also a fact that the presence of the virus is still being seen at the same pace. Due to the delta variant, an aggressive form of corona epidemic was seen in India between March and May, which engulfed people from village to village.
Bani Jolie, a student of IGIB based in New Delhi, says that there is a lot of discussion going on in the country regarding the Delta variant, but the cases of Delta Plus are still very less. There haven’t been many studies on this either. Whereas the most serious situation is being seen not only in India but all over the world regarding the Delta variant alone. Due to this variant, break throw infection has also increased from four to nine to 10 percent in the country. Break through infection refers to patients who become infected after taking both doses of the vaccine.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 45 thousand samples have been sequenced in India so far, but information of 28,150 samples has been given on the website of the international organization GISID. According to this, during the last one month, the delta variant has been found in more than 96 percent of the samples in India. Apart from India, the UK has the largest presence of the Delta variant in the world. So far it has been found in 56,100 samples.
It is too early to say that Delta Plus will lead to third wave: ICMR
ICMR has said that it is too early to say that the third wave of corona will come due to the delta virus found in India. ICMR scientist Dr. Sumit Agarwal told that there can be many other reasons for the third wave to come. The delta plus form of the virus is said to be more contagious. Many studies are going on in this regard. This form of the virus is being found mostly in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
The government has directed to intensify its prevention efforts in the affected districts. Dr Aggarwal said, it is natural for all mRNA viruses to mutate. They cannot be stopped, we cannot control them. Therefore, as time passes, we may get to see more mutations in it and hence this virus is a matter of concern for us. So far, three major symptoms of this form of the virus have been identified.
