Petitioners Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi have now moved the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court refused to stop the Central Vista redevelopment project during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In its order, the Delhi High Court not only dismissed the petition but also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on both the petitioners. It should be noted that earlier a lawyer has also challenged the decision of the High Court but he was not a party in the High Court. Translator Anya Malhotra and historian and documentary filmmaker Sohail Hashmi have sought a stay on the May 31 decision of the Delhi High Court. He has claimed that the High Court dismissed the petition on the basis of ‘face value’ without any investigation.
The Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed in the Supreme Court said that his plea was purely related to public health and safety, as the dreadful second wave of Kovid ravaged the city of Delhi and exposed the poor health system here. Had done it. But the High Court considered it an attack on the Central Vista redevelopment project. The petition said that the High Court wrongly and without any justification or ground considered the petition to be motivated by ulterior motives and lack of genuineness and imposed a fine on the petitioners. The High Court wrongly took the original intention of the petitioners.
