Detailed
Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Raman has agreed to the request of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to consider the appointment of Supreme Court lawyers as High Court judges. The Chief Justice has requested the Chief Justices of the High Courts to consider appointing lawyers practicing in the apex court as judges.
SCBA President Senior Advocate Vikas Singh informed the members of the Association that on May 31, he and the Executive Committee had proposed it to the CJI. The members of the Bar had also said that since a large number of women lawyers are practicing before the Supreme Court, their elevation should also be considered.
In this regard, the communication sent by the association to its members said, “The CJI has agreed to the request made by the SCBA and requested all the Chief Justices of the High Courts to engage with the advocates practicing in the Supreme Court.” Consider appointing a judge in your High Court.
Along with this, after getting the green signal from the Chief Justice, the Executive Committee of SCBA has constituted a ‘Search Committee’ regarding this. The committee comprises vice-chairman and senior member Mahalakshmi Pavani and four eminent members of the bar, Rakesh Dwivedi, Shekhar Naphde, Vijay Hansaria and V Giri. This committee will identify qualified lawyers.
