Five patients’ health deteriorated due to injection of black fungus
Vikas, son of patient Asha Devi (name changed), admitted in Mucor Ward No. 2 of the hospital, told that his mother was earlier given amphotericin B emulsion injection, whereas before that she was being given liposomal amphotericin B injection continuously for several days. . There was no problem with him. Whereas when this second type of injection was given on Saturday afternoon, within a few minutes the patient started complaining of fever, vomiting and diarrhea and severe abdominal pain with severe shivering. Seeing the worsening of the condition, the doctors immediately started treatment in the emergency department.
Vikas told that his mother has been hospitalized since May 17. He had surgery on 25 May. Since the time of admission, injections of fungus were being given to the patient continuously. But due to the injection given in the afternoon, his mother developed high fever with chills and also started vomiting. At the same time, the wife of another patient admitted to the hospital told that her husband was able to get only 10 ml dose of the injection. Within no time his health deteriorated. Similar cases have also been reported in three other patients. Everyone alleges that the second injection has been given due to the lack of a major injection used in the treatment of black fungus.
In this case, the medical director of Loknayak Hospital, Dr Suresh Kumar said that the allegations of the patients are baseless. Only two patients have been reported to have fever with mild chills. He has denied that patients were given wrong injections. Dr. Suresh said that patients are already being given injections of both liposomal amphotericin B and amphotericin B emulsion. This time, information is being sought about why there was a problem with giving the injection. If any negligence comes to the fore, action will be taken against the doctor concerned.
