Vaccination has come down by 50% in 30 days due to lack of vaccine in the country. The states are not getting adequate supply of vaccine but all private hospitals including Max, Apollo, Fortis also do not have a vaccine shortage. For these hospitals, the governments have not been able to fix the service charge till now and separate fees are also being charged for those who are over 45 years of age to register in the hospital.
Due to shortage of vaccines, the government of Delhi and Maharashtra had to temporarily close the vaccination centers in their states. Whereas, due to less vaccination in private hospitals, it has increased more than before. According to private hospitals on the Bakin Kovin website, the price of the vaccine has been given.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has even said in a letter to the central government that private hospitals in his state are charging fees ranging from two to two and a half thousand rupees per dose. Talking about the national capital, Delhi, Max Healthcare hospitals in the age group of 18 to 44 are being charged Rs 900 per dose of Kovishield. While the hospital is spending 600 rupees for this. That is, a service charge of Rs 300 per dose is being charged, which used to be Rs 100 before May 1. During that time there was a dose of Rs 150 vaccine and Rs 100 service charge, due to which a person had to pay Rs 250 per dose.
The effect of not getting enough vaccine to the states was that on an average, 30,24,362 people were being vaccinated per day in April. From May 1, when the youth was allowed to take the vaccine, the number came down to an average of 16,22,087 doses per day. In the last 10 days, there has been a decrease of 10 lakh in vaccinations.
So far, 19.60 crore doses have been given in the vaccination program commencing from 16 January. The daily average immunization in this period of 128 days is 15.10 lakhs. This means that India, on average, is vaccinating 0.12 percent of the population per day, which is the lowest vaccination rate in the world. Not only this, on May 11, 23 lakh people had taken the vaccine and on May 21, only 13 lakh were able to get the dose.

Increasing vaccine production is not a few days’ work. This may take a long time. As far as I think this deficiency will remain in the country before July. The decision to distribute the rest of the vaccine is administrative and systemic. – Dr. NK Arora, President, National Technical Advisory Group
It is the country’s misfortune that governments are giving a big boost to the private health sector in the epidemic as well. The states do not have a vaccine and there is no rule for private hospitals, which is willing to charge that fee. Prof. Rijo M. John, Consultant, WHO
