If you’re a senior reading this, don’t worry, I don’t think you’re computer illiterate. Not only is that attitude deeply problematic, I feel it’s my duty to smash it to smithereens. Besides, I’m pretty sure my dad can dissemble a desktop computer in five seconds flat, which is far better than my personal best. He’s basically a computer wizard.
Whether you’ve been working with computers for years or have never touched one in your life, all skills levels are welcome, as we’re here to help and not demean. From inexpensive machines you can use to browse the web to large, readable displays for those with eyesight problems, here are the five best laptops for seniors.
1. For the one with the aching back
- Has a microSD card slot
- Surface Pen is included
- Lots of fan noise
- Type Cover keyboard is $150 extra
Weighing just a little over one pound, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is remarkably lightweight for a laptop. This is a great option for the person that’s always on-the-go (ahem, my dad), as it won’t put extra pressure on your shoulders and back. Between the versatile 2-in-1 design, the included Surface Pen, and the microSD card slot, the Pro tics off a lot of boxes. Though there’s a lot we love, the detachable keyboard is a separate expense, so you’ll need to pony up the $150.
2. For those with poor eyesight

- Stunning display
- Designed for multi-tasking
- Typing experience is unimpressive
If you’ve got terrible eyesight like me, the Apple MacBook Pro (13-inch) has an amazing display. Not only does the 13-inch display (2560 x 1600) deliver crisp images, it combats reflection in ambient light as well. Did I mention the Pro’s a top performer, too? Thanks to the powerful 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, you can multi-task to your heart’s content. While the $1,984.00 price tag is a tough pill to swallow, we still think it’s worth considering.
3. For those with hearing difficulties

- Phenomenal speakers
- Big and readable display
- Bulky design
- Not a top performer
Here at Reviewed, Dell laptops are a fan favorite. Known for their robust builds and affordable prices, they have a lot to offer. Well, the Dell 17 5000 Series 17-inch is no different in that regard. For just $699.69, you’re getting powerful speakers plus a large and readable display. If you suffer from hearing difficulties, the Inspiron’s speakers are surprisingly loud and capable of producing rich sound as well.
4. For the one who lives on Facebook

- Perfect for light use
- Great battery life
If you’re looking for a simple machine to surf the web on, the HP Chromebook (14-inch) is an excellent choice. This low-power laptop is inexpensive, durable, and largely virus-free. Armed with an Intel Celeron N2840 processor, it’s plenty fast for checking e-mail or watching Netflix. Plus, the sky blue color scheme is gorgeous (it also comes in silver). I actually use this exact model at home, so I can personally vouch for it.
5. For the tech savvy one

- Lots of ports
- Colorful display
- Strong build
With its full HD display, robust build, and connectivity options, the Acer Aspire E 15 (2016) is a pretty well-rounded machine. If you have a way with machines or enjoy tinkering, you can actually access the internals thanks to a removable panel. This makes upgrading the storage or RAM super easy. The only drawback is that it weighs a little over five pounds. It may not be the most portable laptop in the world, but you’ll definitely get the most bang for your buck.
