British MP’s visa revoked for her ‘anti-India’ activities: Govt sources | Press24-India News

NEW DELHI: After a British MP, critical of India’s move to withdraw Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, was denied entry into the country, government sources on Tuesday said that her visa was revoked as she was involved in “anti-India” activities. Debbie Abrahams, who chairs a British parliamentary group on Kashmir, was denied entry into India upon her arrival at the New Delhi airport on Monday. Saying that the grant or rejection of a visa is the sovereign right of any country, the sources added that Abrahams was issued an e-Business visa on October 7, 2019, which was valid till October 5, 2020 to attend business meetings. “Her visa was revoked on February 14, 2020, on account of her indulging in activities which went against India’s ‘national interest’. The rejection of the e-Business visa was intimated to her on February 14,” sources added. The sources added that Abrahams was not in possession of a valid visa at the time of her travel to India and she was accordingly requested to return. “There is no provision of ‘visa on arrival’ for UK nationals at the airport,” they said. The Labour Party MP had claimed that she had a valid visa and that she was travelling to India to visit family and friends. Abrahams was among a group of MPs who issued formal letters following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 in August last year.
